From four-legged kids to the unknown
Posted on Thursday, September 4, 2008
I'm in a heap of hurt because I haven't mentioned my four-legged kids recently. Sorry, Missy.
Sweetie, this singing schipperkee, hasn't been real pert lately. I suppose it is because of the heat and her age. She was a mature kid when she came live on the Possum Farm four years ago. Folks, the heat and accumulated years takes it's toll on all of us, even us two-legged kids.
Neither have much affect on the new kid. Sha Mai, the shih-tsu, is a yearling and it takes a lot to phase her. For some reason, I have started calling her Little Girl, and we all seem pleased with it. I have noticed how she sometimes strikes a pose that is reminiscent of lion watching it's prey. That explains why shizi means lion in Chinese, with gou being the word for dog.
Folks, I have known and loved many dogs in my life, but I have never seen an animal love another animal they way Little Girl loves Sweetie. She will spend 10 to 15 minutes at a time, several times a day, grooming that old kid's face. Sweetie sleeps a lot, at least she tries to.
Little Girl lays inches from her and when she decides Sweetie has slept long enough, she starts to whine and progresses to a quiet bark, getting louder till Sweetie is wide awake. Then the grooming begins.
Changing the subject, I'm going to say something will shock you all. Not everyone sees things the same way. This is especially true in politics and religion.
The last time T. Roger Hillerman and I talked, he brought up a point that really grabbed my attention. He, being a Ufologist and liberal certainly had a different interpretation of Jeremiah Chapter 10, verse 11 than this old conservative hillbilly.
He in New England and me here on the farm each opened our Bibles to that passage. Let me read from the New American Standard Version what a part of that verse says," The gods that did not make the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under the heavens."
Now, folks, I believe this verse pertains to those false gods that were being worshiped by pagan nations. These deities would perish because they were not eternal in nature.
Dr. Hillerman sees th is verse much different that I do. He points out how the book of Jeremiah is written in Hebrew, except for chapter 10, verse 11, which is written in Aramaic.
That may very well be. I'm not up on that but if it's true, I asked what difference does it make"I still interpret it the same. It could be written in pig Latin and still mean the same thing.
Dr. Hillerman with all of his liberal college "book larning"sees it this way. He believes the "other gods "went off into outer space and each created their version of our earth, complete with beings and all the trimmings. He believes these beings are the so-called aliens from outer space who have visited us for centuries.
His argument goes like this: Earth's history has been made up of violence and wars, which consumed much of our time, money and research. He named the ancient Philistine warriors, Roman war machine, Persian armies and various Oriental violent societies.
We her have had our Civil war and two world wars, as well as the Korean, Viet Nam and other killing periods of time. We are currently involved in two extremely expensive battlefields where that money could be used in research and improving our quality of life.
He points out our great leaps in science in nearly every phase of our society. He points out our "Buck Rogers"period of outer space knowledge such as our journeys to the moon, Mars and beyond.
He asked," Suppose those other civilizations out there were peaceful societies who put their attention toward all kinds of research like medicine and the exploration of outer space ?"
If that was the case they would have accumulated enormous amounts of knowledge that would put them far, far ahead of us. He believes they have studied us for centuries and are willing to share their knowledge with us, improving our life in all phases of our existence.
Dr. Hillerman also believes these aliens also know that if they did attempt to communicate with us, we would try to annihilate them. Folks, I agree with him on that point.
See you all next week, Lord willin' and a little green man ain't doing research on me.
