Ozark Folk Life discussed Billy Higgins, professor of history at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, will present a program entitled "Life and Times in the Ozarks," at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 15, as part of the Shiloh Museum's monthly Shiloh Sandwiched-In Series. Higgins will discuss old-time community lifeways such as cattle- and hog-raising, covered-dish gatherings, rural schools, Grange Hall dances, timbering, woods lore, and whiskey-making, with an eye toward how these traditions carry on today.

Due to museum roof repairs, the program will be held next door to the museum in First United Methodist Church's Ivey Hall at 206 W. Johnson Ave. in downtown Springdale. For more information, call 750-8165. Sacred Harp Singers The Northwest Arkansas Sacred Harp Singers will meet at 1: 30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12 and 26, in the General Store at the Museum. Writing Group LifeWriters, a group for people interested in writing the stories of their own lives or those of family and friends, will meet at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at the museum. Railway Society The Boston Mountain Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Museum. Civil War Roundtable The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Museum. Storytellers The Tellers of Tales storytelling group will meet at 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Museum. Wireless Society to Meet The Ozark Wireless Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Museum. Museum Closing Extended Due to roof and building repairs, the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History is closed to the public until mid-December. Museum staff members are available for school and community programs, and access to research materials is available on a limited basis.
