40 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic Thursday, Oct. 10, 1968 A brother and sister who had not seen each other for 39 years have been having a visit together in Pea Ridge. They are James A. Jefferson, of Pea Ridge, and Mrs. Barry (Edna ) Veithch, of Vancouver, B. C., Canada. At 19, she moved to Canada with her sister while her brother stayed in Pea Ridge with his mother. The annual election of officers will be among the business to be conducted at the Chamber of Commerce meeting schedule for tonight at the Pea Ridge City Hall. Final plans will be made for the Installation Dinner to be held Oct. 19.
30 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene Wednesday, Oct. 11, 1978 Drivers and owners of four wheelers and tractors came from near and far to compete in the pulling contest Sunday afternoon co-sponsored by the Pea Ridge Little League and Pea Ridge Park. Mrs. Charlotte Foster reports for the Little League that it netted between $ 800 to $ 900 at the event. A total of $ 117 has been collected as a result of the suggestion made in a letter to the editor of the Graphic-Scene in memory of Homer Adkins for the construction of a suitable memorial at the Pea Ridge Little League Park. The Pea Ridge Volunteer Fire Department responded to over 50 fire calls last year and has already responded to 29 this year, according to Fire Chief Sam Spivey.
20 Years Ago The Times of Northeast Benton County Thursday, Oct. 13, 1988 The Pea Ridge Area Ministerial Alliance expect to increase the Pea Ridge elementary School Food Fund by as much as $ 800 as a result of this Friday night's stew super, Alliance President Charles Womack said this week. The Pea Ridge School Board reelected as officers two of its members Monday night and a third was named vice president of the board. Re-elected were Ron Foster, president, and Tony Fletcher Jr., secretary. John Brown was elected to vice president filing the position that was vacated by Kent Webb. The board also discussed the possibility of constructing a new high school building. Norm's Grocery of Seligman, Mo., is in the process of nearly doubling its sales area, its owner said last week. Norman Weaver, who has owned the grocery for nine years, said the expansion will cost $ 70, 000 and increase the sales area to about 7, 000 square feet.
10 Years Ago The Times of Northeast Benton County Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998 High School Principal Gary Wayman approached the board with a solution to the problem of home school students re-entering school, stating that this has become a real problem, since the state has become so lenient as to allow students to drop out and re-enter school several times a year. The policy would call for a standard achievement test to be conducted upon re-entry, as well as a list of textbooks used by the student and the courses taught.
Veterans Day will be observed in a big way this year at Pea Ridge High School. Civics teacher Randy Holman is planning a memorable day for veterans of all U. S. wars.
This year Dr. Dorothy LeBoeuf of Pea Ridge Medical Center was chosen as Washington Regional's Phases in Women's Health Woman of the Year. Some of the comments that were sent in by her nominator and others who wrote letters of support included," as a woman in a male-dominated field of medicine she was perhaps a modern day Dr. Quinn, having to prove herself to her collages and patients."
