Hunter Education Class The Benton County Chapter of Quail Unlimited will host a Hunter Education Class on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the BCQU Plantation, five miles west of Bentonville on Arkansas Highway 72.

Any person born after Dec. 31, 1968, must have completed a state certified "Hunter Education Certification"class to hunt in Arkansas. Students will hear and learn from Arkansas'best, most experienced and involved instructors in shooting, hunting, youth training and education.

BCQU is sponsoring this program, in conjunction with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

There is no fee or cost for this certification class. Lunch will be provided by the BCQU Cooking Team and Wal-Mart. There is no preregistration required, there is no limit to class size. Class starts at 8 a.m. with registration and sign-in starting at 7: 30.

Participants who successfully complete the 10-hour course will receive their hunter education certification. Temporary certification cards will be issued to those hunters needing immediate certification.

Last chance to register Although the deadline has passed for fall sports leagues at the Rogers Activity Center, applications will be accepted until all spots are filled for each league, assistant director Cathy Benich said.

The youth soccer league has teams for both boys and girls, ages 5 to 18. Games begin Sept. 13.

There's also a new program for ages 4 and 5 called Little Kicksters.

The youth football league is for boys in grades four through seven. Games begin Sept. 13.

A free trial tumbling class is scheduled on Aug. 18. Tumbling is for boys and girls ages 4 through 12. The new tumbling session starts Sept. 8.

Rogers Thunder tryouts The Rogers Thunder, a 12- & - Under USSSA competitive baseball team, will be holding tryouts Aug. 16 and 23. To be eligible for the team, a player cannot turn 13 before May 1, 2009.

Kappa Alpha Psi Golf Classic On Aug. 16, the Fayetteville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity will hold their 12 th annual Golf Classic at Berksdale Golf Course in Bella Vista. Money raised will benefit the Rogers Meals on Wheels organization.

"Our Fayetteville alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity raises proceeds for a nonprofit organization through our annual golf tournament," said Roderick Stakley, tournament chairman.
