Schools to hold joint tennis practices
Posted on Wednesday, August 6, 2008
The schools have separated but Rogers High and Rogers Heritage tennis teams will practice together.
On July 31, it was decided at a coaches meeting with district athletic director Mark Holderbaum that the War Eagles and the Mountaineers will practice together according to gender.
Practices will take place at the new district tennis courts at Rogers High behind the football stadium and at Northwest Park. The boys and girls will swap courts each week. The first week of practice begins Aug. 11 and the boys will start at Northwest Park.
All matches will be played at the district tennis courts.
"It worked out great," said Heritage boys'coach Matt Fulton. "The great thing about tennis is that it is a gentleman's and ladies'sport and we are trying to promote Rogers tennis."
Fulton said there is "no disadvantage"in having his players hit with Mountaineers. Coaches from both schools will be present at every practice.
"By working together we are going to conquer more than being separate," Fulton said. "All the coaches are working together and we are trying to make Rogers public schools a tennis entity."
