Dunlop, Rogers drop Springdale in penalty kicks

Mounties 3 Bulldogs (PKs ) 2 The Rogers Mountaineers will be observers on the first day of the Class 7 A State Soccer Tournament next Saturday.
The Mounties clinched a No. 2 seed and a first-round bye with a 3-2 shootout win Friday against Springdale on Senior Night at Gates Stadium.
Rogers (15-4-1, 5-2 ) outscored Springdale 7-6 in kicks from the spot after the game was tied 2-2 at the end of 80 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods.
Spencer Dunlop's kick scored Rogers'seventh goal in the shootout, and Springdale's Adam Neal sent his shot over the goal to give the Mounties the win.
Rogers was successful on all seven of its kicks from the spot with scores coming from D. J. Kirn, Fransico Lopez, Matt Marsh, Donny Martinez, Marvin Carpio, Jenry Aleman and Dunlop. Dunlop scored two goals in regulation as the Mounties took a 2-0 lead. Springdale got back in it in the second half. The Bulldogs got a penalty kick in the 57 th minute and Ricardo Martinez scored to make it 2-1. Springdale (9-6-1, 4-3 ) tied it in the 74 th minute on a goal from Ashton Glaser. The Mounties had several chances to end the game in regulation and overtime. Rogers outshot Springdale 19-11 and the Bulldogs almost knocked in an own goal at the end of the first extra time period. With the win, the Mounties will begin play in the state tournament in the quarterfinals on Monday, April 28.
The Mounties and league champ Fort Smith Southside earned first-round byes.
Van Buren finishes third and Bentonville, with its 2-1 win against Fayetteville on Friday, finished fourth.
With the loss Springdale dropped to fifth in the conference while Fayetteville finished sixth. Lady Mounties 7 Lady Bulldogs 1 The Lady Mounties scored three goals in the first 10 minutes of the game and won easily against Springdale.
Rogers (13-7-1, 5-2 ) will be the No. 3 seed from the 7 AWest in the Class 7 A State Tournament.
The sister-tandem of Alyvia and Adrian Rogers scored the Lady Mounties'first two goals and Kelly White added a third with 30: 54 left in the first half.
Rogers made it 5-0 before halftime on goals from Liza Eppley and Mary Davis.
Megan Dougherty assisted on two goals in the first half.
Bonnie Black scored a goal in the second half for Rogers, to cut the second half time in half. Kristin Harp also scored in the second half for Rogers.
Rogers out-shot Springdale 27-2.
Chelsea Sall scored in the 70 th minute for Springdale (4-12-0, 1-6 ).
