Fayetteville
Hazel Dalton, 95, of Fayetteville, formerly of Waupun, Wis., passed away to Eternal Life on Tuesday, June 17, 2008. Hazel was born Sept. 23, 1912, in Amsterdam, Idaho, to Arthur and Winnie Hull Peters. From her youth until her move to Fayetteville, Hazel was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church in Waupun, a denomination that during those years consisted primarily of Dutch immigrants and their descendants.
Hazel attended Waupun schools, graduating in 1930 from Waupun High School. In 1935 she married Walter Dalton. They resided in Waupun all their married life, where they owned and operated Dalton TV and Record Store. In November 1978 Hazel moved to Fayetteville, where she became a member of University Baptist Church. She was a caring member of the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class at UBC, which provided her a core of good friends through the years.
Hazel played the piano from an early age and continued to play it well into her 90 s, using raised marks to locate keys after she lost her sight. She had a lifelong love of music, especially traditional religious music. Her love of music was passed on to her children, who did, and still do, enjoy many forms of music. During the years in the family TV and record store, she developed her artistic nature, which provided her with skills in designing window displays, for which she received numerous awards. After moving to Arkansas, she developed an interest in calligraphy and flower pressing, which gave her immense pleasure. In her early years in Fayetteville, she also enjoyed volunteer work, especially the Bible studies done at various local nursing homes. She had an enduring faith in her Lord and Savior, which provided her with faith, hope, strength, love and courage throughout her life. Her family, relatives and friends will miss her and her laughter, but her inner qualities will remain with us in our hearts. Special thanks to the staff of Northwest Medical Center, North Hills Life Care and Rehabilitation, and Washington Regional Medical Center for their loving and tender care of our dear Mother during her last days. A special thanks also to the pastors, congregation, Ladies Sunday School Class and the "Merry Hearts"of UBC for embracing our mother in friendship during her time in Fayetteville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Dalton, in 1965. Survivors include three children, Norris Dalton, Gardie Dalton and David Dalton, all of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, Amy Bearbower of Fayetteville and Dawn (David ) Bliss of Nashville, Tenn.; and four great-grandchildren, Savannah, Christian and Joshua Schneider, and Amy Grace Bliss.
