Adult education program to start classes
Posted on Sunday, September 21, 2008
Fayetteville Adult and Community Education program started most of its fall semester community education classes this week, and most of the other classes will begin in the coming weeks.
The community education classes range from oneworkshop events to classes that meet in the evenings over six to eight consecutive weeks. Adult and Community Education is housed at the Jefferson building, 612 S. College, which was formerly Jefferson Elementary School.
Most of the classes are held at Jefferson, though some are held at other sites, Adult and Community Education Director Kathy Spigarelli said. A registration fee is required for most classes.
“ We’ve moved just about everything here if possible, ” she said. “ It would be nice if we had an elevator in the building. We could utilize even more space. ”
On Thursday, the program began its mosaic, Italian and the knit / crochet classes in the Jefferson Center. District Chief Financial Officer Lisa Morstad was among the participants in the mosaic class.
Also this week, the program started its Spanish, dog obedience, bridge, ballroom dancing and gemology classes.
“ Classes have met once, so if people wanted to join in next week, it’s not too late, ” Spigarelli said.
Upcoming courses include a class on basic electricity, which starts Oct. 13.
“ Electricity is new; Mosaic is new, ” Spigarelli said.
Also, a landscape design class starts Thursday and will continue to meet on Thursdays for four weeks.
Bob Ford, the playwright-in-residence for TheatreSquared, has started a playwright workshop, and TheatreSquared staff will teach a beginning acting and scene study class that meets on Sundays starting Oct. 5.
In addition, the center will hold a one-day workshop about wedding planning on Oct. 11.
The center has a Web page that lists its classes under the Fayetteville school district’s Web site, www. fayar. net.
