The planned music concert scheduled for Sunday to help raise funds for Greenland Public Schools has been canceled due to threat of bad weather.

Weather forecasts are predicting heavy rains Sunday due to fallout from Hurricane Ike in the Gulf of Mexico.

“ We were afraid with the weather coming in that it wouldn’t be a good time for a concert, ” Paula Schoonover, a school supporter, said. “ We are going to reschedule. ”

The concert was scheduled to be held indoors at the Greenland Elementary School gym, but organizers didn’t think that would be a good facility in a severe storm because it is a metal building, Schoonover said. A new date for the concert was not immediately scheduled.

The Little O’ Oprey Band from West Fork and the bluegrass band Francis Harderson and Company had planned to play at the concert, which was scheduled to go all afternoon and into the evening.

The concert was one of several ongoing fundraisers by the Greenland School Supporters, a group made up mostly of school employees, district residents, parents and former school board members.

The group is raising money to help the financially troubled district, which was placed under state control this summer due to financial problems.
