Springdale Mayor Jerre Van Hoose's release from the hospital, where he was taken after falling from a horse Sunday at the Rodeo of the Ozarks, was delayed, according to a statement issued Tuesday from his office.
Doctors at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale have decided to keep Van Hoose in the hospital for observation at least through today.
"Mayor Van Hoose said that he is resting as comfortably as one could reasonably expect under the circumstances of his injury," said Rose Lawrence, his administrative assistant.
Van Hoose cracked a bone near the base of his spine and injured muscles when he fell from his horse Sunday while preparing to ride in the Rodeo of the Ozarks Parade. The horse at one point became agitated and reared up, spilling Van Hoose onto the ground.
Van Hoose has said the injury was not serious.
He has ridden in the parade since he was first elected in 1999.
