Two Fayetteville men face criminal charges for allegedly growing marijuana plants in a closet.

Jacob Andrew Coe, 19, and James Austin Matthews, 20, both of 3750 W. Tanyard Drive, were arrested Wednesday on one felony charge each of manufacturing a controlled substance. They were booked into the Washington County Detention Center.

Fayetteville patrol officers responded to the men’s home to assist the Fayetteville Fire Department with a possible structure fire on Oct. 25. At the scene, officers identified marijuana plants growing in a closet inside the master bathroom of the residence.

Members of the 4th Judicial District Drug Task Force were called to the scene to execute a search warrant. In addition to the marijuana plants, officers reportedly found growing equipment, four rifles, two shotguns and approximately 6 grams of marijuana.

According to a preliminary arrest report, both Coe and Matthews admitted to growing the marijuana plants.
