Local lawmakers receive committee assignments for legislative session

State Sen. Sue Madison of Fayetteville became chairman of the Arkansas Senates Committee on City, County and Local Affairs Tuesday as senators in Little Rock received their committee assignments for the 87th General Assembly. Madison, Sen. Bill Pritchard of Elkins and Sen. Ruth Whitaker of Cedarville, who represent Districts 7, 35 and 3, respectively, in Washington County, each received their appointments Tuesday. Appointments to committees generally give senators more influence than noncommittee members over the legislation those committees review. The following is a list of committee assignments for senators representing Washington County:
