Posted on Wednesday, November 19, 2008
Fayetteville police Lt. Rob Turberville completed the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety in Evanston, Ill., on Nov. 7.
He has worked at the Fayetteville Police Department since 1984 and has risen through the ranks to achieve his current command status.
The School of Police Staff and Command is an intensive 10-week program that provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for increased responsibilities in administrative staff or line command positions. The program has been in place since 1983.
The course was hosted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety in Des Moines, Iowa, and started on Aug. 18. The class contained 32 law enforcement officers from nine different agencies in Iowa, Missouri and Arkansas. At the beginning of the course, Turberville was elected to the position of vice president of the class.
At the graduation ceremony, Turberville was awarded the Franklin M. Kreml leadership award to honor his outstanding performance as class vice president and mentor to his peers. The award was established by the institute’s founder to recognize and encourage the high ethical and professional values and dedication to public service upon which the institute was founded. This is the second year that a Fayetteville Police Department member has received this award. In 2007, Capt. Kenny Yates received the award.
The leadership award is presented to the student who best displays the dedication, devotion, ethics, sense of justice and other attributes that exemplify the kind of leadership that is needed in today’s law enforcement community.
