Early voting for area runoffs starts today

Early voting for Fayetteville, Springdale and Greenland star ts today.

Washington County Clerk Karen Pritchard Combs said residents in all three cities can vote early at the Washington County Courthouse from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and on Monday.

The runoff election for all three cities is set for Nov. 25.

“We had a record turnout for the general election, and I expect another record turnout for the runoff,” she said. “We had people coming in (Monday) wanting to vote early. They’re already gearing up.”

During the general election, about 68 percent of the 100,243 registered voters in Washington County voted. Of the 68,685 voters, 24,722 voted early.

In Fayetteville, residents will decide who will be the next mayor, either Fayetteville Mayor Dan Coody and Alderman Lioneld Jordan.

Springdale residents will pick Doug Sprouse or Alderman Mike Overton for mayor. Alderman Jeff Watson and Josh Jenkins are running for the Ward 3, Position 2 seat in Springdale, and Randy Pounders and Alderman Rick Evans will vie for the Ward 2, Position 2 seat on the Springdale City Council.

In Greenland, there is a runoff between Alderman Carroll E. Hancock and Lonnie Meadows for the Ward 3, Position 1 seat on the City Council.
