World Food Day drive gets under way
Posted on Sunday, October 12, 2008
The Arkansas World Trade Center in conjunction with the University of Arkansas, the University of Arkansas Global Campus, the city of Fayetteville and Tyson Foods Inc. will sponsor a canned food drive in acknowledgement of World Food Day.
World Food Day is Thursday and is a worldwide event designed to increase awareness and understanding and to inspire action to alleviate hunger. The current United Nations Human Development Program Report states," Climate change is the defining human development challenge of the 21 st century. Failure to respond to that challenge will stall and then reverse international efforts to reduce poverty."
People are encouraged to donate food items such as dry beans, canned goods, peanut butter and other nonperishable foods at one of the dropoff locations listed below on the UA campus and other locations in Fayetteville and Rogers.
Tyson Foods has agreed to match the food drive donations on a 10-to-1 basis up to 60, 000 pounds of food.
Local drop-off locations • UA Global Campus at Fayetteville, 2 E. Center St., Fayetteville • UA Office of Study Abroad, 722 W. Maple St., Fayetteville • UA First Year Experience, Arkansas Union - A 688, Fayetteville • Fayetteville City Administration Building, 113 W. Mountain St.
• UA Facilities Management, 521 S. Razorback Road, C-105, Fayetteville Additionally, all UA residence halls will have collection boxes in their lobbies.
