Pug Rescue's Pugfest 2008 set for today in Springdale

SPRINGDALE - Hosting its annual fundraiser, Pug Rescue of Northwest Arkansas Inc. has scheduled Pugfest 2008 for today.

Registration will begin at 11 a. m., and games will start at 11: 30 a. m., the same time as the poker walk. Goody bags will be given to the first 100 to register at the J. B. Hunt Softball Park East Pavilion.

Along with the fun and contests, Dr. Beth Stropes from Crossover Vet Clinic will speak at 12: 30 p.m. More than 30 items have been donated for a silent auction.

There will also be a DVD of previous pug events available for sale at the event. Concessions will be available, too.

Contests will include the oldest pug, youngest pug, most unusual pug canine friend, pug with the longest tongue, pug with the curliest tail, loudest or best vocal pug, best trick or talent, best costume, best costume of pug friend and best costume team. The contests will begin at 1 p.m. and continue until complete. Special awards will be given to the longdistance pug and the most improved rescue pug.

The crowning of Mr. and Mrs. Northwest Arkansas Pug will be determined from the contests and participation in each game and will conclude Pugfest. Door prizes, trophies and pugs available for adoption will also be part of Pugfest.
