A Fayetteville man faces felony charges for allegedly trying to run over a group of anti-abortion demonstrators along College Avenue Tuesday afternoon.
Jason Bryant Shireman, 42, of 1701 E. Mission Blvd., was taken into police custody on felony charges involving three counts of aggravated assault.
Fayetteville police responded to the Fayetteville Women’s Clinic, 1011 N. College Ave., at 4: 23 p. m. Tuesday. Witnesses at the scene stated that Shireman drove his suburban onto the curb, nearly striking three students from Subiaco Academy.
The students were taking part in the “ 40 Days of Life” demonstration. During the anti-abortion event, students stood near the clinic, praying for an end to abortion. Participants said they were holding their signs, when Shireman’s suburban nearly struck them.
During an interview with police, Shireman stated that he drove onto the sidewalk to show the demonstrators “ what he thought about them. ” He denied trying to run over them.
Shireman was taken into police custody and transported to the Washington County jail. He was later released on a $ 3, 500 bond. He will make his next appearance in the Washington County Circuit Court on Oct. 29.
