BENTONVILLE — A 22-year-old Siloam Springs man was killed Saturday when the four-wheeler he was riding collided with a car.
The rider of the ATV was identified as Travis Benjamin Martin, according to a news release from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction team was called at 4: 30 p. m. Saturday to the scene of an accident involving a four-wheeler and a late model Dodge passenger car, according to the release.
Sgt. Paul Newell, who heads the reconstruction team, met with the driver of the car at the scene on Butler Road and Old Highway 58. The driver indicated he was coming around a curve on Butler Road when he saw a four-wheeler in his lane, according to the release.
According to the release, evidence at the scene suggested Martin was traveling south on the paved county road at a high rate of speed when, for unknown reasons, he veered into the path of the Dodge. Martin attempted to stop by locking up the brakes on the ATV. The impact ejected Martin off of the ATV, causing him to strike the Dodge, the release states.
The driver of the Dodge was uninjured. The crash is still under investigation.
