“ Restoring a person’s body image to its pre-cancer state can help emotionally and can provide strength to face treatment or move forward, ” said Gina Maddox, manager of the Cancer Support Home. “ This gift will make a huge difference to our Boutiques. Being able to offer these items at no charge to the patient is a blessing. ”

The mission of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Auxiliary is to provide information, service, compassion and hope to those whose lives are touched by cancer. The auxiliary makes annual grant awards through its grant program for innovative projects that are consistent with its mission statement and for which funding is not otherwise available. More than 60 stores in Northwest Arkansas and more than 140 stores in central Arkansas are participating in the fight against cancer with help from the Partners Card, a fundraising project of the volunteer auxiliary of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Shoppers who purchase the $ 50 card will receive discounts on store merchandise and services from Oct. 25 through Nov. 2. This is the third year for the Cancer Institute to offer Partners Card in Northwest Arkansas and the fifth year in central Arkansas.

Partners Cards can be purchased in more than half the participating stores or at www. uams. edu / partnerscard.

The money received through card sales goes directly to the auxiliary and is returned to the community to cancer care organizations and their patients. Last year, two Northwest Arkansas organizations — The Cancer Support Home in Fayetteville and Bentonville and Helping Oncology Patients Excel Inc. (H. O. P. E. Inc. ) — received more than $ 28, 000.

The Cancer Support Home used the money they received to buy prosthesis and wigs for cancer patients. H. O. P. E. used the funds to support their emergency assistance program, helping oncology patients excel through financial and emotional assistance.
