A hit and run accident on College Avenue left two people injured and one man behind bars Saturday morning.
Michael Rivers, 22, of 606 Concord St. in Lowell, faces criminal charges for leaving the scene of an accident with injury, drinking while intoxicated, failure to yield and no proof of insurance.
Fayetteville police responded to an alleged hit-and-run in front of Burger King on College Avenue at about 12: 10 a. m. Saturday.
Fayetteville Police Sgt. Shannon Gabbard said Rivers was negotiating an eastbound turn into Burger King from College and failed to yield to on-coming traffic. The right rear bumper of his 1994 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was clipped by a motorcycle, according to the report, causing the bike to tip. Both the driver and the passenger of the motorcycle, later identified as 24-yearold James Rhoades and 22-year-old Lauren James, both of Fayetteville, were ejected and injured.
Rivers allegedly fled the scene and continued southbound on College. He was stopped by police several miles down the street, near the intersection of College and Spring. During an interview with police, he admitted his involvement in the accident.
“ He was transported to the Washington County Detention Center where his (blood alcohol content ) tested at. 08, ” Gabbard said. “ He was found to be at fault by the arresting officer. ”
Rhoades and James were transported to the Washington Regional Medical Center where they were treated for their injuries. According to the report, James suffered a broken tibia and fibia, requiring surgery.
Rivers was being held in the Washington County Detention Center on a $ 4, 530 bond Saturday. He is expected to make his first appearance in the Washington County Circuit Court on Monday.
