A planned Greenland School District fundraiser scheduled for Friday on the school campus has been rescheduled for July 12.
“ We’re going to do it on the 12 th, Saturday the 12 th, ” said Bill Groom, president of the Greenland Board of Education.
Funds raised will help provide the district with revenue to help it contest a plan by the Arkansas Department of Education to force the district to annex with a neighboring district. The Arkansas State Board of Education is scheduled to vote on the matter at a meeting July 14 in Little Rock.
“ Right now the school is trying to be able to ensure that we are going to be able to continue operating the Greenland school system, ” Greenland parent Brenda Reynolds said. “ We’re basically trying to ensure that students are going to continue to be able to go to Greenland. ”
Several activities have been planned for the fundraiser, and many businesses have donated prizes, she said.
“ I know we’re having an all-day yard sale, ” Reynolds said. “ At 4 p. m. is when we’re going to have a cookout and dinner. We’re also going to have a silent auction. At 6 p. m., we’re going to have a pie and cake auction. ”
Groom said officials hope to have more details next week about the fundraiser and its activities.
