Greenland School District fundraiser reset to next weekend
Posted on Thursday, July 3, 2008
A planned Greenland School District fundraiser scheduled for Friday on the school campus has been rescheduled for July 12.
"We're going to do it on the 12 th, Saturday the 12 th," said Bill Groom, president of the Greenland Board of Education.
Funds raised will help provide the district with revenue to help it contest a plan by the Arkansas Department of Education to force the district to annex with a neighboring district. The Arkansas State Board of Education is scheduled to vote on the matter at a meeting July 14 in Little Rock.
"Right now the school is trying to be able to ensure that we are going to be able to continue operating the Greenland school system," Greenland parent Brenda Reynolds said. "We're basically trying to ensure that students are going to continue to be able to go to Greenland."
Several activities have been planned for the fundraiser, and many businesses have donated prizes, she said.
"I know we're having an all-day yard sale," Reynolds said. "At 4 p.m. is when we're going to have a cookout and dinner. We're also going to have a silent auction. At 6 p. m., we're going to have a pie and cake auction."
Groom said officials hope to have more details next week about the fundraiser and its activities.
