Care Foundation provides grants to local programs

The Care Foundation board of directors has awarded more than $ 1. 6 million in grants.
"Care Foundation is pleased to support the following initiatives of area schools as they educate future leaders," Kathy McFetridge, chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee, said in a released statement. "We are pleased to partner with Ozark Guidance Center as they expand their school-based services. " Early childhood education • $ 123, 500 to Springdale Public Schools for third-year implementation of the district's pre-K program • $ 190, 000 to Siloam Springs Public Schools'Northside Elementary for fourth-year implementation of its pre-K program • $ 194, 000 to Gravette Public Schools' Glen Duffy Elementary for fourth-year implementation of its pre-K education program • $ 121, 000 to Decatur Elementary for fourth-year implementation of its pre-K readiness program Extended learning • $ 50, 000 to Bentonville Public Schools' Mary Mae Jones Elementary for fourth-year implementation and evaluation of its program that offers before- or after-school and summer tutoring sessions and clubs designed to reinforce core learning skills • $ 22, 000 to Siloam Springs Public Schools'Southside East and Southside West elementary schools for fourth-year implementation and evaluation of an after-school Spanish enrichment program for students in grades three through five • $ 45, 500 to Springdale Public Schools' Westwood Elementary for fourth-year implementation and fundamental skills classes not offered during the traditional school day • $ 130, 000 to the Springdale School District for continuation of its Spanish-asa-second-language program offered to students in third, fourth and fifth grades at five different schools - Smith, Turnbow, Walker, Westwood and Young New arrival center • $ 30, 000 to Springdale Public Schools for final-year implementation of a language immersion program for students who are English language learners including finalizing the English-as-asecond-language curriculum document, publication of the curriculum and evaluation of the program Health initiatives School-based prevention and early intervention program • $ 576, 000 to Ozark Guidance Inc. to implement a combining of school-based mental health services and school-based social services serving 12 elementary schools in Northwest Arkansas School-based fitness • $ 140, 000 for implementation and evaluation of the PE 4 life program at Old High Middle School in Bentonville For more information about the Care Foundation or its grant initiatives, visit its Web site at www. ccfound. org.
