Fayetteville’s Willison interviews in Prairie Grove

Fayetteville Associate Superintendent Randy Willison interviewed for the interim superintendent position at the Prairie Grove School District Thursday evening.
The Prairie Grove Board of Education held a special meeting Thursday to conduct interviews to hire an interim superintendent to succeed Pete Bennett, who is leaving at the end of the month.
Board President Rick Reed said they interviewed Willison and Marvin Higginbottom, interim superintendent of Berryville, in closed session Thursday.
In Fayetteville, Willison has served as associate superintendent of operations since July 2006. He was principal of Fayetteville High School for three years before that.
If selected for the position, it would be Willison's first time as superintendent.
His role as associate superintendent includes oversight of the transportation department, capital improvement projects, land acquisition and building maintenance.
Willison has also worked as a school administrator for Russellville, Pulaski County and Bryant.
Attempts to reach Willison were unsuccessful.
Willison was a finalist to become Fayetteville's superintendent in March, but was ultimately eliminated without being interviewed. In May, he said he still is interested in becoming a superintendent.
Higginbottom is a former Bentonville and Pea Ridge superintendent who came out of retirement to serve as Berryville's superintendent for one year while that district searched for a permanent superintendent.
On Wednesday, the board also interviewed Prairie Grove High School Principal Ron Bond and departing DeWitt Superintendent Tom Wilson.
Reed said he has made it a point to tell applicants the job is a one-year appointment with no guarantee that the candidate will be hired on a permanent basis.
The board is scheduled to hold another meeting on Wednesday to interview Mark Sanders, a former superintendent of Valley Springs and current director of the River Valley Technical Center in Morrillton.
