Fayetteville police arrested a Texas man for allegedly holding two women at knifepoint inside their home.

Jose Gutierrez, 20, of 7751 Texas 107 East in Edinburg, faces felony charges involving two counts of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of terroristic threatening and one count of burglary.

Officers responded to a reported hostage situation at a residence on Belmont Circle, off Clabber Creek Road, at about 4: 20 p. m. Wednesday. According to police, Gutierrez was holding his ex-girlfriend’s sister and mother against their will inside their home.

According to the police report, he followed the two victims home and forced his way inside. He allegedly threatened to hurt and even kill them if they didn’t cooperate. At one point, the report stated, he threatened them with a kitchen knife. He then used one of their cell phones to call his ex-girlfriend.

During the phone call, Gutierrez threatened to kill the victims if his ex-girlfriend didn’t come to the residence, the report stated. After about 20 minutes, the victim’s mother was able to escape to a neighbor’s home, where she contacted police. Officers arrested the suspect at the scene.

Investigators later learned that Gutierrez had been involved in a disturbance in a vehicle earlier that day, in which he allegedly held his ex-girlfriend against her will, beginning in Locust Grove, Okla., and continuing through parts of Missouri before ending in Springdale.

While driving, the victim was able to flag down a Springdale police officer. According to the report, she told police that she had a protection order against Gutierrez and wanted him to stay away from her. No record of a protection order could be found at the time, the report stated. The victim was allowed to leave the scene in her vehicle, while Gutierrez was allowed to leave on foot. He later made his way to the residence on Belmont, where he allegedly waited for the victims to arrive home.

According to the police report, Gutierrez was out on bond for domestic battery charges in Locust Grove, Okla., and Dallas when he was arrested Wednesday. Investigators also confirmed that he was the subject of a protection order sought by his ex-girlfriend in Mayes County, Okla.

Gutierrez was transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held Thursday evening. Bond was set at $ 100, 000. He is expected to make his first appearance in Washington County Circuit Court today.
