Landfill gives nonprofits a shot at $5,000

"It's different, and we wanted people to have some input on this," Jordan said. "We think we'll get some great ideas."
Only organizations with a 501 (c )(3 ) nonprofit tax status in the areas of Benton, Washington and Madison counties can submit proposals. Jordan said the group is always looking for community input, but it believed that there were nonprofits in Northwest Arkansas with a passion for sustainability and that those groups would have an "additional interest" in naming the landfill.
Each entry can include up to five names. The deadline for entries is Friday. A local committee will determine the winner.
Any nonprofit organization that would like to submit a name can contact David Hausam at dhausam @ wm. com. The new landfill name will be revealed at a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 5 at the landfill.
This contest follows a recent Earth Day event at the landfill where more than 500 people celebrated Waste Management's plans to build a wildlife habitat at the Tontitown Landfill.
