Promoters reveal schedule for Dickson Street Music Festival

Confir ming what has been speculated for several months, a local promotion company has announced the creation of the Dickson Street Music Festival. Headlining acts will be the Charlie Daniels Band on April 25 and Sonic Youth on April 26.
The concerts will make up the largest two-day music festival that has ever taken place in Northwest Arkansas, said Dan Allen, partner in event organizer Majestic Concerts LLC. The fledgling festival will eventually rival Memphis in May, he said.
"There has long been talk of such a festival in Northwest Arkansas, but Majestic Concerts, with your help, is going to make it happen," he said.
The Dickson Street Music Festival is scheduled for April 25-26 and will take place along its namesake street. The festival's main stage area, where the headlining acts will perform, will be located in the Walton Arts Center parking lot at the southwest corner of Dickson Street and West Avenue.
Bands. 38 Special and Shooter Jennings will support the Charlie Daniels Band on April 25. Michael Franti and Spearhead and Little Feat will perform before Sonic Youth's set on April 26.
The newly created festival will coincide with Springfest, which celebrated its 25 th year at its April event last year. Like the Springfests of old, the new festival will be a family-friendly event, said Brian Crowne, co-owner of George's Majestic Lounge and partner in Majestic Concerts.
It will also be a environmentally conscious event, Crowne said at a press conference Thursday morning at George's, where he was joined by Allen; Neal Crawford, coordinator of Springfest; and Harold Wieties, booking agent for George's and partner in Majestic Concerts. Recyclable materials will be used whenever possible, and recycling bins will be located throughout the Dickson Street area.
Because of sponsorships, such as presenting sponsor Snapple, tickets will provide a "high caliber of music at a ridiculously low price," Allen said. General admission tickets will be $ 30 per night or $ 50 for both evenings. Tickets are on sale now through www. majesticconcerts. com, www. ticketsage. com and at George's.
Music will also take place at various venues before and after the main stage performances. Blind Melon will perform at George's following the April 26 performance by Sonic Youth. Those carrying a ticket to the festival will be admitted for free until the venue reaches capacity. Patrice Pike, who appeared on the 2006 television show "Rock Star: Supernova," is also scheduled to perform during the two-day event.
More nationally known performers will be named soon, Crowne said.
In the event of inclement weather, the festival will take place at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
