U. S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln announced on Tuesday that she is accepting applications for her spring internship program, which provides students the opportunity to learn about the federal government and legislative process. Selected college students will work in Lincoln's Washington, D. C., or Little Rock office.

"It is always a pleasure to be able to host some of Arkansas's finest young people in my Senate offices," Lincoln said in a press release. "The students who have participated in my internship program since it began almost nine years ago have been an indispensable asset to me, my staff, and to all Arkansans who contact my office. I encourage anyone who is interested to apply for this valuable opportunity."

Lincoln's internship program is designed to give students who have completed at least their sophomore year in college an opportunity to learn about the federal legislative process; to improve their communications, research and writing skills; and to gain experience in a professional environment. During the semester-long program, interns work closely with the legislative staff, the constituent services staff, and the communications office.

Formal applications are available by contacting Lincoln's Washington office. Completed applications for the spring program must be postmarked by Dec. 15 and should be sent to Lincoln's Little Rock office at 912 W. Fourth St., Little Rock, AR 72201. Mark applications to the attention of Emily Hildebrand. Applicants selected for the program will receive notice by late December.

Anyone with questions regarding the program can contact Hildebrand at (202 ) 224-4843. Information can also be found online at www. lincoln. senate. gov.
