A 22-year-old Fort Smith man died early Monday morning in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 540 just north of Winslow.

Jhonnatan E. R. Leonard was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington County Coroner's Office after sustaining injuries in the wreck, which occurred at about 2 a.m. Monday.

Leonard was driving his 1999 Mazda Protege south on I-540 in the inside lane near the 46-mile marker when he lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the right side of the interstate, according to the accident report.

The vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest on its top, and Leonard was ejected during the incident, the report stated.

Leonard was not wearing a seat belt, and no airbags were deployed, it continued.

It is unclear what caused Leonard's vehicle to leave the roadway, according to state police, but a blood sample was taken for further investigation.
