Police have identified two victims involved in separate fatality accidents in Fayetteville on Tuesday.
According to an accident report issued by the Fayetteville Police Department, 52-year-old William Doyle was traveling westbound on Arkansas 16 from Elkins toward Fayetteville in a yellow Kia Sportage at about 11: 30 a.m. when he crossed the center line just before reaching the bridge spanning the Middle Fork of the White River.
"It looks like he veered out of his lane and tried to correct himself, but it was too late," Sgt. Shannon Gabbard said.
Doyle collided head-on with a Tyson Foods tractor trailer driven by Harry L. Sweet, 68, of Lowell. His car traveled 100 yards west of the Elkins city limits and landed in a steep embankment.
Witnesses pulled Doyle from his car before emergency responders arrived at the scene. Paramedics attempted to revive Doyle, but he was later pronounced dead at Washington Regional Medical Center.
Sweet was not injured in the accident. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
The wreck stopped traffic on the highway, and officers were on the scene until about 2 p.m.
At about 8: 20 p.m. Tuesday, patrol officers responded to an accident in front of Herman's Ribhouse, 2901 N. College Ave.
Police said that Donald Hudson, 20, of Fayetteville was driving his Honda CBR 600 motorcycle southbound on College Avenue when he struck the side of a white 2007 Chevrolet Sierra driven by Mark Shelton, 41, of Fayetteville. Police said Shelton was pulling out of Herman's Ribhouse and attempting to turn north on College when he was struck by Hudson.
Fayetteville Fire Department responders attempted to revive Hudson, but hours later he was pronounced dead at Washington Regional.
"It looks like excessive speed was the cause of this accident," Gabbard said. "Witnesses said they had seen (Hudson ) doing wheelies in the area of Rolling Hills (Drive )."
Shelton was not injured, but his vehicle sustained extensive damage.
Gabbard said Hudson was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
