Posted on Sunday, November 16, 2008
A canned food drive at the University of Arkansas collected 600 pounds of food for the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank. Tyson Foods Inc. agreed to match the donations from university students, faculty and staff on a 100-to-1 basis and will donate an additional 60,000 pounds of food for distribution throughout Northwest Arkansas.
The food drive was held in conjunction with World Food Day, Oct. 16. It was sponsored by the University of Arkansas, the Arkansas World Trade Center, the University of Arkansas Global Campus, the city of Fayetteville and Tyson Foods Inc.
World Food Day is an annual worldwide event designed to increase awareness and understanding and to inform a year-around action to alleviate hunger.
