Caleb Fulton of West Fork was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2008 semester at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge. The list honors full-time students with a grade-point average of at least 3. 5.

Sommer Rees of West Fork was named to the president’s list for the spring 2008 semester at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge. The list honors full-time students who achieved a 4. 0 grade-point average.

Sandra Souvannachak of Springdale was named to the president’s honor roll for the 2008 spring semester at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla. The list honors undergraduate students who earn all A’s in 12 or more hours during a semester.

Alicia Weiburg of Farmington and Marqette Anderson, Dana Corinne Broad, Rebecca Imes and Jami Morgan, all of Springdale, were inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, a national honor society recognizing academic excellence during a student’s first year of college, at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. Members of the honor society must be first-time, full-time freshmen pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a grade-point average of at least 3. 5.

Erin Mangum of Fayetteville, along with 12 other University of Central Arkansas undergraduate students, presented research at the 235 th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in New Orleans from April 5–8. With more than 13, 000 attendees, the meeting included symposia on topics as diverse as energy and the environment, nanotechnology, biological and medicinal chemistry, and chemical education. The students took advantage of the programming to attend symposia about how to operate a successful student affiliate chapter and listen to lectures by pre-eminent scientists. The students also presented research they had conducted as part of independent study projects in conjunction with UCA chemistry faculty members. Most students have worked for at least a year on their project, others for more than three years. The title of Mangum’s poster was “ Attachment of tris (pyrazolyl ) methane ligands to synthesis beads. ” It was co-authored by Dr. Richard Tarkka and Tiffany Linz (University of Central Arkansas ).

Two Springdale residents were among the graduates earning a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy on May 17.

Megan Baker Baber is the daughter of Carrie and Perry Helmkamp of Springdale and Gary and Marilyn Baker of Dallas. Prior to entering the College of Pharmacy, Baber attended the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.

Brandy Geiger Lane is the daughter of Becky Geiger of Springdale and George Geiger of Dallas. Prior to entering the College of Pharmacy, Lane attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

Gina Smith of Fayetteville won the Robert S. Laser Endowed Scholarship, which is awarded annually by the University of Arkansas School of Architecture. The daughter of Doris and Greg Smith of Fayetteville, Smith was a 2007 graduate of Fayetteville High School and is pursuing an architecture degree at the University of Arkansas.

Smith was one of 70 outstanding students recognized at the University of Arkansas School of Architecture’s 10 th annual Scholarship Recognition Luncheon, which took place last month on the University of Arkansas campus. Awards recognize achievements ranging from a high grade-point average to leadership in the studio and community, and help students pay for books, materials and the required semester of international study. The School of Architecture provided a total of $ 96, 550 in awards and scholarships. An additional $ 18, 000 will be awarded to incoming freshmen this summer.

Jennifer Hudspeth of Huntsville graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma A & M College in Miami, Okla., on May 1 during the 87 th Annual Commencement Ceremony. Hudspeth graduated with a degree in criminal justice. She is the daughter of Joyce and Jimmy Hudspeth of Huntsville.
