FAYETTEVILLE — The Fayetteville School Board voted 7-0 today to negotiate a contract with Nabholz Construction of Rogers to perform construction services on the future Fayetteville High School improvement project.

The decision came following a morning meeting where the board interviewed five construction firms. Following the interviews, Nabholz was the board’s first choice to negotiate a contract with on the project.

Superintendent Vicki Thomas also said she favored Nabholz as the first choice.

According to the board’s motion, should negotiations with Nabholz fail to come to fruition, the second and third choices will be CDI Contractors of Johnson and Flintco of Springdale.

Today’s meeting follows a Monday meeting where the board voted 6-0 to negotiate a contract with Hight-Jackson Associates for architectural services on the project. Two other firms partnering with Hight-Jackson on the project are DLR of Overland Park, Kan., and Marlon Blackwell of Fayetteville.

Member Steve Percival was absent Monday.

The nature of the improvement project has not been defined, but last week, the board applied for $52.3 million in construction bonds from a special low-interest bond program offered through the Arkansas Department of Education. Of that amount, the plan is to set aside $45.3 million for high school improvements.
