Decreasing growth and state regulations have slowed construction plans for three new high schools in Washington County.

Growth has slowed significantly in Farmington. Regulations from the Arkansas Public School Facilities and Transportation Division have stymied Lincoln’s plans and delayed them in Elkins.

Lincoln’s new high school — a 105,000-square-foot building planned for an undeveloped 40-acre tract on the south side of U.S. 62 — is halted in a dispute with the facilities division over the state funding the district is to receive. Lincoln’s wealth index indicates the state should pay $14 million for the $22 million project, Superintendent Frank Holman has said. Instead, the facilities division approved the project for a $1 million appropriation.
