Thelma Keith Howerton Barney

Thelma Keith Howerton Barney, 99, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died June 1, 2006, at the Siloam Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born Feb. 22, 1907, in Delaware County, Okla., she was the fourth of five children of Alfred Phagan Keith and Addie Gearhart Keith.

She married Floy E. Howerton in 1924; he died in 1938. She owned and operated a grocery and lunch counter until 1943 when she married Earl Barney and moved to Tulsa, Okla., where she worked at Spartan Aircraft until the end of World War II. The couple lived in Siloam Springs until her husband died in 1988.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Leon Ezell; and one grandson. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Jane and husband Donald Mickel and Velva Ezell, all of Siloam Springs; one son, James K. and wife Jean Howerton of Reno, Nev.; nine grandchilden; 17 great-grandchildren; and eight great-greatgrandchildren.

Services will be held June 6 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Siloam Springs. Dr. John Terry will officiate the service and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Siloam Springs on June 5 from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Building Fund, Circle of Life Hospice or Siloam Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Activity Fund. Jack Howe, 67, died May 31, 2006, at his home near Prairie Grove, Ark. Born June 5, 1938, in Valentine, Neb., the son of John F. and Evangeline Carson Howe.

He was a member of the Prairie Oaks Baptist Church. He met his wife while in the U.S. Navy in Kansas. Howe was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge and the Hunting Club.

Survivors include his wife, Lavelle Dobbs Howe of the home; one son, Rocky Howe of Siloam Springs, Ark.; three daughters, Deborah Jetmore of Joiner, Ark., Saundra Shinkle of Fall River, Kan., and Sheila Oliver of Prairie Grove; one sister, Agnes Howe Ballow of Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Cliff Howe, Jon Dobbs, Marvin Latta, Jimmy Crooks, Kenneth Latta and Brian Hendrik. Honorary pallbearers were Clint Dobbs, Johnny Dobbs, Omer Dobbs, David Dobbs, Wayne Winstead and Ray Mulvaney.

The funeral service was June 3 at the Prairie Oaks Baptist Church with John Hooser, Ivan Faulkner and Larry Lavon officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove Cemetery near Evansville, Ark. Survived include three sons, James Howell of Siloam Springs, Ark., Jerry Howell of New Mexico, and Terry Howell of Chester; two sisters, Catherine Ward of Tulsa, Okla., and Gladys of Tulsa; four brothers, John Burger of Gentry, Ark., Henry Ward of Westville, Okla., Emmet Ward of Tulsa and Pat Burger of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Starless Henry Link, 98, lifelong resident of Colcord, Okla., died June 1, 2006, at Siloam Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Siloam Springs, Ark. Born March 6, 1908, in the Deerlick community in Delaware County, Okla., he was the son of Joseph Elias Link and Mayme Miller Link.

He was a trucker and a farmer. He married Willie Thelma Herndon in Southwest City, Mo., on Feb. 5, 1925. He was a member of Country Side Bible Church in Colcord.

He was preceded in death by his wife; two sons; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Link of Mokelumne Hill, Calif., Starless Link Jr. of Wilseyville, Calif., and Bobby Link of Claremore, Okla.; one daughter, Wilmuth Long of Colcord; 11 grandchildren; 23 greatgrandchildren; and 16 great-greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. June 5 at Wasson Memorial Chapel in Siloam Springs with Edward Billups officiating. Burial will follow in Kansas Cemetery in Kansas, Okla. Ashton Blayne Potter, 11, of Los Banos, Calif., died May 29, 2006, in Siloam Springs, Ark. Born Oct. 23, 1994, in Modesto, Calif., he was a sixth grader at Westside Middle School in Los Banos. Justin Kenneth Rutherford Justin Kenneth Rutherford, 34, of Decatur, Ark., died May 31, 2006, at Northwest Medical Center of Washington County in Springdale, Ark. Born Jan. 13, 1972, in Fullerton, Calif., he was the son of James Kenneth Rutherford and Linda Lee Gillum Rutherford.

He lived most of his life in the Gentry, Ark., area and was a live haul truck driver for Peterson Industries. He also served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his parents, Kenny Rutherford and Linda Rutherford of Gentry; two sons, Joel Rutherford of Bryant, Ark., and Huntlee Wilkerson of Decatur; three daughters, Nicki Rutherford, and Briana Rutherford, both of Bryant, and Ashley Watson of Decatur; one sister, Amy Dunlap of Gentry; paternal grandmother Charlene Rutherford of Gentry; and maternal grandmother Margaret Gillum of Fullerton.

Margaret Pauline Wilcox Rutter, 80, of Haddam, Conn., died May 17, 2006, at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Conn., after a brief illness. Born in Norton, New Brunswick on April 1, 1926, she was the only child of Heber and Constance Folkins Wilcox.

She attended Boston University, graduating in 1946, and married William "Bill" Rutter on March 10, 1951. They lived in a number of different communities, but felt most at home in Siloam Springs, Ark., where they lived for 21 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Rutter.

Survivors include her daughters, Deborah Rutter of Haddam, and Christina Rutter Williams of Westford, Mass.; and three grandchildren.

Funeral and burial were private. James Edward Snow James Edward Snow, 55, lifelong resident of Gentry, Ark., died June 1, 2006, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital in Siloam Springs, Ark. Born April 6, 1951, in Siloam Springs, he was the son of William Leroy Reed and Ethel May Jones Reed.

He was a construction manager for PB2. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Snow was a 4-H leader and was a member of Alpha Ro Chi. He was also involved in Habitat for Humanity and a member of Falling Springs Community Church. He married Paula Mankins on Sept. 28, 1973, in Cedarville, Ark.

Survivors include his wife, Paula of the home; one daughter, Valerie Ann Snow of the home; one grandson; one brother, Michael Snow of Van Buren, Ark.; two sisters, Margaret Reed of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Nancy Hernandez of Siloam Springs; one stepbrother, Dale Reed of Mountainburg, Ark.; three stepsisters, Wilma Wilroth, Dorothy Bull and Janice Truelove, all of Mountainburg.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. June 5 at Falling Springs Church in Falling Springs, Ark., with Mark Rotramel and Bill Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Falling Springs Cemetery. Local arrangements were under the direction of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs, Ark., and funeral arrangements made through Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Mortuary, Turlock.
