JBU’s Newton wins award

Lubbock Christian, with big wins this weekend over Oklahoma City and Southern Nazarene claimed three Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball honors, with room for one more from John Brown for the week of Sept. 29-Oct. 5.
Rachel Stuyvesant, of LCU, was named Player of the Week and Setter of the Week, JBU's Christi Newton was Hitter of the Week, and LCU's Courtney Yonke was named Libero of the Week.
Stuyvesant, a 5-9 junior from Albuquerque, N. M., averaged 10. 7 assists, three digs,. 9 aces and. 6 blocks for the week Newton, a 6-1 junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., led JBU to a 2-0 week, averaging 3. 8 kills per game.
