Siloam All-Stars fall in Cal Ripken tourney

BENTONVILLE - The Siloam Springs 9-year-old All-Stars put up a good fight, but came up short in the Cal Ripken Southwest Regional Tournament held last weekend at Memorial Park.

Siloam Springs finished 2-2 in pool play, gaining victories over Van Buren (7-6 in extra innings ) and Westside, La. (8-6 ).

Siloam Springs, however, dropped a 12-4 decision to North Randall County (Texas ) in the elimination game late Sunday afternoon.

The Siloam Springs All-Stars reached the tournemtn after placing fifth at the state tournament in Mansfield.

In Sunday's split decision, Harrison Kretzer went 4-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored to lead Siloam Springs past Westside (La. ).

Then, in an elimination game, Kretzer continued his consistent performance with a 3-for-4 outing and a run scored against North Randall County .
North Randall County plated
five runs in the fourth inning to
run-rule Siloam Springs , 12-4 .
After pool play , 12 teams advanced to the tournament which
started Monday .
The winner of Batesville-Maumelle will battle the winner
of Eagle Pass (Texas ) vs . Oak
Grove (Miss. ) -Zachary (La. ) in
Tuesday's championship game .
Batesville reached the semifinals with two straight victories
over Washington County (11-6 )
and Hot Springs (5-3 ) , while
Maumelle advanced with wins
over Bentonville Gold (23-9 ) and
Benton (7-5 ) .
Eagle Pass notched a firstround bye in the tournament and
then soared past Pine Bluff
Seabrook (11-3 ) .
Oak Grove (Miss. ) eliminated
North Randall County (4-1 ) and
battled Zachary (La. ) in the late
game Monday night . The score
was unavailable at press time .
Zachary (La. ) also notched a
first-round bye .
Colby McDaniel turned in a 3-for-4 performance at the plate to
rally Batesville past Hot Springs ,
5-3 , in the elimination game .
In the early game Monday ,
Batesville scored five runs in the
third inning to hold off Washington County .
McDaniel , Austin Reaves ,
Matthew McSpadden and Trent
Swaim collected run-scoring singles in the inning .
Brayden Harris and Ryan
Larkin , son of former Siloam
Springs standout Johnny Larkin ,
went 3-for-4 at the plate for
Washington County .
In other elmination games ,
Pine Bluff knocked out Bryant (3-2 ) .
Eagle Pass and Zachary (La. )
were the lone teams in the 9-year-old tournament to advance
to the semifinals with undefeated
records .
