Panther Pit open to welcome state tourney

It’s that time of the year when the Siloam Springs Lady Panthers show their dominance.

The No. 2 ranked Lady Panthers (31-3 ) will open the 2007 Conference 5 A State Volleyball Tournament at noon Tuesday against No. 4 seed Paragould at the Siloam Springs High School Gymnasium.

Historically speaking, the Lady Panthers are vying for their fourth 5 A state championship and the current senior class has tallied an overall record of 93-11 with two state titles and three conference championships.

Ticket prices for the state tournament are $ 5 for adults and students. However, ticket prices for the state fi- nals, which will be held in Greenwood on Saturday, are $ 7. Tickets can be purchased at the state tournament site.

The bracket for this week’s state tournament can be viewed online at www. ahsaa. org. Panther fans must click on sports, then click on volleyball and under “ important info ” scroll down to the headings of 5 A State VB bracket to print the information.

The first-round matches at Siloam Springs High School on Tuesday are:

• Siloam Springs vs. Paragould, noon, Court 1

• Pulaski Academy vs. Heber Springs Lakeside, noon, Court 2

• Nettleton vs. Little Rock Christian, 2 p. m., Court 1

• Magnolia vs. Robinson, 2 p. m., Court 2

• Camden Fairview vs. Helena Central, 4 p. m., Court 1

• Wynne vs. Morrilton, 4 p. m., Court 2

• Mills University Studies vs. Malvern, 6 p. m., Court 1

• Greenwood vs. Greene County Tech, 6 p. m., Court 2

The second-round matches will start at noon, 2 p. m., 4 p. m. and 6 p. m. Wednesday. Should the Lady Panthers win, they will face the winner of Pulaski Academy-Heber Springs Lakeside at noon.

Semifinal matches will be held at 1 and 3 p. m. Thursday, with the state championship taking place at 3 p. m. Saturday at Greenwood High School.

The Lady Panthers have appeared in the state tournament 20 of the past 26 years.
