School to celebrate 100 years

Students, faculty, staff and residents are invited to celebrate the 100 th anniversary of Siloam Springs High School this weekend at the Centennial Celebration starting Friday just before noon.
Siloam Springs High School at 1500 W. Jefferson St. has called four buildings home since it was chartered 100 years ago, according to the Siloam Springs School District Web site.
I am so excited and feel honored to be the principal of the best high school in Arkansas as we celebrate Siloam Springs High Schools 100 th graduating class, Principal Charles Abernathy said. I want to personally invite everyone to come celebrate with us 100 years of Panther Pride and tradition.
The celebration will kick off with a pep rally at 11: 30 a. m. Friday in Panther arena.
A balloon release will take place at the end of the pep rally to honor former and current graduates.
The last times to order balloons for the release are 11: 30 a. m. to 12: 30 p. m. Wednesday. Orders must be placed in the high school courtyard during lunchtime.
Northside Elementary School Adopters will host a carnival and circus parade for children 10 and under at Glenn W. Black Stadium from 6 to 8 p. m. Friday.
Admission is $ 2 for adults and free for children 12 and under.
The Decades Dance for all ages will include music from the past and the present from 7 to 10 p. m. Friday in the high school cafeteria.
A car show with vehicles of the past 100 years will be hosted from 9 a. m. to noon Saturday in the student parking lot, and people can enter their vehicles in the show for a fee.
Students will model clothing and looks from the past to the present in the 100 years of style show at noon Saturday in the Panther Pit volleyball arena.
The 2008 time capsule, which was filled with items that students voted on, will be dedicated.
The Memory Lane walking tour will be displayed from 3: 30 to 6 p. m. Friday and 9 a. m. to noon Saturday throughout Siloam Springs High School with memorabilia, including pictures, old assignments, athletic equipment, uniforms, clothing and scrapbooks.
I want to thank Tiffinie Smith and her committee of students and staff who have worked tirelessly to make this event a huge success, Abernathy said. Please come out and enjoy the activities !
