Talbot Library / Museum dedication planned COLCORD, Okla. - The Talbot Library and Museum in Colcord plans a dedication and open house honoring completion of the Springtown Schoolhouse Restoration Project. The event is set for 1 p.m. April 27.

The Springtown (Ark. ) schoolhouse was built in the 1920 s in Springtown, a community between Gentry and Highfill, in Benton County. The building was purchased at auction by Talbot Library and Museum and moved onto the property in 2006. The restoration has been a lengthy project, requiring many hours of volunteer labor. The schoolhouse has been designated officially as Talbot's Historic School Restoration Project by the Oklahoma Centennial Commemoration Commission and funded in part through a grant made possible by the Oklahoma Legislature in 2007.

This unique structure will be preserved for the future, and used for museum school displays, community functions and educational programs. It will be used to demonstrate the importance of this type of building to the community as a meeting place, as well as a learning center.

Scheduled speakers at this time for the dedication and open house include: Jeanie McCain Edney, deputy director of the Oklahoma Centennial Commission; and Jay Hannah, a native of Moseley Prairie, Delaware County, Okla., an executive vice president of Financial Services at BancFirst in Oklahoma City. Hannah is active in several organizations, Cherokee Nation Enterprises, Friends of the State Museum, Beck-Hildebrand Mill Association and serves on the Northeastern State University Foundation.
