Raymond Edgar Bates

Raymond Edgar Bates, 88, of Gravette, Ark., died Dec. 1, 2007, at his home in Gravette.

Born April 18, 1919, in Hiwasse, Ark., he was the son of Herman Bates and Rebecca (Brown ) Bates. He married Bernice Pifor on May 15, 1941, in Gentry, Ark.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country in the U. S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He saw action in the Asia-Pacific Campaign on the Aleutian Islands in 1943.

He was a retired carpenter and farmer, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Howard Penny Post No. 9834.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, his parents and two brothers, Forest and Eugene Bates.

Survivors include a daughter, Doris Edwards of Gravette; one son, David S. Bates of Mesquite, Texas; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nine greatgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Harvey Bates and wife Marcella of Wichita, Kansas; and a sisterin-law, Gwendola Bates of Presser, Wash.

Visitation was 1 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at Backstrom-Pyeatte Chapel in Siloam Springs, Ark. The Rev. Glenn H. Hill will officiate the service. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Gravette under the direction of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to the Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72726.

William Gerald Chambers

William Gerald Chambers, 75, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Nov. 29, 2007, in Siloam Springs.

Born July 6, 1932, in Hope, Ark., he as the son of Will Chambers and Alma Lunnon Chambers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Charlene Gleghorn; and five brothers, Henry, Jack, Norman, Don and Willard Chambers.

Survivors include his wife, Galedia Chambers of the home; a son, Michael Chambers and wife Kelly of Siloam Springs; and one granddaughter.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at Crosspointe Community Church, U. S. Highway 412 in Tontitown, Ark., under the direction of Roberts / Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Stilwell, Okla.

Elizabeth'Beth' Dickey

Elizabeth "Beth"Dickey, 87, of Gentry, Ark., died Dec. 1, 2007, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital.

Born June 11, 1920, in Oklahoma City, Okla., she was the daughter of James Earl Newland and Gertrude Woods Newland. She was married to John Robert Dickey, who died April 14, 1996.

She retired from Emerson Electric in Rogers. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Gentry and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three sisters, Louise Newland, Leniveda Carden and Gertrude Weatherall.

Survivors include four sons, John David Dickey and wife Gloria of Fort Worth, Texas, Robert Patrick Dickey and wife Bettyanne of Seattle, Wash., Michael Dickey and wife Teresa of Sand Springs, Okla., and Dennis Ray Dickey and wife Laurie of Gentry; one daughter, Mary Mc-Dowell and husband Keith of Gentry; one brother, James Earl Newland and wife Bernice of Corona, Calif.; two sisters, Marge McGee of Dodge City, Kan., and Jennie Weems and husband Steve of Sapulpa, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was 6 to 8 p. m., Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at First Christian Church, Gentry, with Jim Whisenant officiating. Burial followed at Springtown Cemetery, Springtown, Ark. Arrangements were under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home Inc., Siloam Springs.

Betty Lou Lynch

Betty Lou Lynch, 83, formerly a resident of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Dec. 2, 2007, in Rogers, Ark.

Born Aug. 4, 1924, in Ada, Okla., she was the daughter of Dewey Floyd and Emma Carroll Floyd. She attended school in Oklahoma and graduated from Copan High School.

She met Robert "Bob"Lynch Sr. and they married on Sept. 17, 1948. After he graduated from college in Stillwater, Okla., they moved to Neosho, Mo., where he was a field man with Pet Milk Co.

Her husband was transferred to Siloam Springs in 1959, where they made their home. She was a homemaker and cared for her children.

In later years, the couple bought a hardware store, and she began working in the family business. After they sold the business, she worked for many years with Cooper Dairy Supplies, Mathias Discount and JCPenney Co.

In 2001, she was honored by First Christian Church of Gentry, where she was a member, as "Mother of the Year."

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Houston Floyd and Jerry Floyd; and one sister, Jean Pierce.

Survivors include one son, Robert "Bob"Lynch Jr. and wife Margaret of Gentry; one daughter, Beverly Lescard and husband Richard of Siloam Springs; one sister, Sammye Pierce of Anderson, Mo.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was 6 to 7: 30 p. m., Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at Council House Cemetery, near Tiff City, Mo., with Eddie Rotramel and R. A. Simmons officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home Inc., Siloam Springs.

Homer Lee Smith

Homer Lee Smith 79, of Colcord, Okla., died Nov. 30, 2007, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 5, 1928, in Locust Grove, Okla., he was the son of Homer P. and Ina M. Holman Smith. He was retired from the carpet sales business.

He married Ina Mae Berg on Dec. 30, 1947.

He served in the United States Army and was a member of the Kansas, Okla., Masonic Lodge No. 252 and also the order of the Eastern Star No. 480.

He was an active member and deacon of the Calvary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Virginia Ann Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Ina Mae Smith of Colcord; three sons, Ronny Smith and wife Melissa, and Mike Smith and wife Phillis, all of Colcord, and Jack Smith and wife Pam of Kansas, Okla.; one sister, Elisabeth Conley and husband Doyle of Rose, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Joe Wilkerson officiating.

Burial followed at Johnson Cemetery in West Siloam Springs, Okla. Arrangements were under the direction of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.

Craig Whalin

Craig Whalin of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Dec. 3, 2007, at his home.
