Christ Lutheran Church is a small church that began in a most unusual location.
With a handful of worshippers, this small band of believers met in Goomba’s Catfish Cove for its first two months.
Four months later that same church is hosting a community event in Bob Henry Park on Aug. 23 from 4 p. m. to 8 p. m.
The “ BBQ in the Park” is an invitation to all of the Siloam community to enjoy good old fashioned family music, hickory smoked meats and wholesome fellowship.
The reason behind this event, according to Pastor Terry Held, “ is to thank the community for the great place that Siloam is. I personally have never seen such a welcoming and friendly community. ”
Held, an alumnus of John Brown University, sought the help of the Siloam Chamber of Commerce to help in understanding what Siloam Springs is all about. “ Not only is it beautiful but it is a blessing to all who live here. This community would never have become what it is today if there weren’t great people with great hearts helping to grow this community. I meet people every day I am here who smile and are helpful to all requests. ” The music line-up includes the Shady Grove Bluegrass Band from Pea Ridge, The Faith Lutheran Bentonville PraiseBand and Family Music from Siloam’s Dawn McCollough.
The food will be provided by a couple of local chef’s — Chris Walker and J. R. Clausing — volunteering their time and expertise.
There is no charge for this event
“ It is important for this church to be a part of this community in a meaningful way. We are already helping with area needs at the Genesis House, Manna Center and St Francis Clinic, ” Held said. “ But the bottom line for us is to help this community continue to be as great as it is for many years to come. What better way for us to start out than to say thank you to the very people who live and work here. ”
