Orthodox Church Celebrates Feast of Dormition
St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church will celebrate the feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos on Sunday with Divine Liturgy beginning at 10 a.m., preceded by Morning Prayer (Orthros) at 9 a.m.
One of the 12 major Orthodox feast days, the observance commemorates the death of Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. Orthodox Christians fast for two weeks to prepare for the feast. St. Nicholas Church is at 105 Blair St., at the corner of Blair and Meadow, in Springdale. For more information call 751-1830. The pastor is Fr. John Atchison.
Women's program features JBU professor Aug. 28
A brunch and program," A Time Apart,"for women of the community will be held from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 28 at First United Methodist Church, 325 E. Twin Springs in Siloam Springs. Dr. Robbie Castleman, assistant professor of biblical studies and theology at John Brown University, will be the featured speaker.
Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased from a member of the United Methodist Women, at the church office, or at the door the day of the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring a Bible. The event is open to women of all faiths. A nursery will be provided.

Snapp new Grace Episcopal vicar
J. Russell Snapp, 45, is the new vicar of Grace Episcopal Church in Siloam Springs. He moved to Siloam Springs in June after teaching history for 13 years at Davidson College in North Carolina. He graduated from General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church in New York City.
"I grew up in northeast Arkansas, and I'm excited to be back in Arkansas after being away for many years,"he said. "I've enjoyed the natural beauty of the area, as well as getting to know the people here."
Bush new FUMC pastor
Dr. David Bush, 46, is the new pastor at First United Methodist Church in Siloam Springs. He and his wife of 25 years, Joanie, moved to Siloam Springs on June 24. They have two children; Natalie attends Pulaski Technical College in North Little Rock, and Jonathan will be a junior at Siloam Springs High School. Most recently he was senior pastor at Levy United Methodist Church in North Little Rock. He has a bachelor's degree from Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, a master's of divinity from Memphis Theological Seminary and a doctorate of ministry from Memphis Theological Seminary.
"Siloam's fantastic, people are very warm and welcoming, I'm certainly enjoying getting out and about meeting people in the community,"Bush said.
He and his wife were both raised in El Dorado.
