Whitcomb to perform in local hymn concert

Accomplished pianist and local musician Lloyd Whitcomb will perform in concert at 7 p.m. May 14 at First United Methodist Church, 325 E. Twin Springs. Admission will be free. Whitcomb will be assisted by family members and friends to provide a variety of music, especially selections from his just released CD, "Some Favorite Old Hymns ... Revisited."

During the late 1970s, Whitcomb was the primary pianist at the Evangelical Free Church in Fullerton, Calif., where Chuck Swindoll was pastor. He also has 15 years experience in the piano service department of the Yamaha Corporation. In 1993 he moved back to Siloam Springs and for the past six years has been the pianist in the First United Methodist Church's Celebration Service each Sunday morning.

The community is invited to the concert. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.

Summer camp meetings this week

Power and Light Gospel Outreach Center at 300 S. Britt St. will hold a summer camp meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Dr. Shirley Randall will speak at the interdenominational event. For more information call 524-4042.

Honduras Day a benefit for mission trip

On May 16 the community is invited to participate in Honduras Day at Community Christian Fellowship church, 505 S. Lincoln St.

Immediately following the morning service, a dinner and silent auction will be held to raise money for the church-sponsored 14-member team's mission trip to Tegucigalpa, Honduras in July. The dinner will feature typical Honduran cuisine, and the silent auction will offer a large selection of donated items from local businesses and individuals.

While in Honduras the team will participate in evangelistic outreach, children's ministry, vitamin distribution programs and various service projects.

Orthodox Church celebrates Feast of Ascension

St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church will celebrate the feast of the Ascension of Our Lord on May 19 with Evening Divine Liturgy beginning at 6 p.m. One of the 12 major orthodox feast days, the observance commemorates Christ's ascent to his Heavenly Father.
