Posted on Wednesday, December 3, 2008
The public is invited to a groundbreaking ceremony for Gravette’s new million gallon water storage tank which will be erected on Detroit Street Northeast.
The brief ceremony will be held today, Wednesday, December 3, at 11 a. m. at the tank site, according to Junior Hartley, Director of Public Works.
Later in the day a preconstruction conference will be held at 1 p. m. at City Hall.
Landmark Structures I, L. P. of Fort Worth, TX, has been awarded the contract for construction of the tank. The bid of $ 1, 842, 000 was accepted in late October by the City Council.
A bid of $ 234, 200 for construction of 12-inch service lines to interconnect with the city’s system was awarded to Ground Zero Construction of Siloam Springs.
Hartley said construction on the tank will begin shortly after the first of the year.
The project, which has been in the design stage for many months, is being secured by a $ 2, 240, 000 loan at a 2. 75 % interest rate.
The Council, at its October meeting, approved new water rates, which will be phased in over a three year period. The first increase becomes effective January 1, 2009, as outlined in the October 23 issue of The Gravette News Herald. Later increases will take effect Jan. 1, 2010, and 2011.
