Charlotte’s Corner: : July, here we come already!
Posted on Wednesday, July 2, 2008
July, here we come ! Can you believe that it is now the seventh month of the year, and we are celebrating our countryís 232 nd birthday ? Oh, if I could only live that long. But on the other hand, I donít know that I would want to live that long.
July is a special month. The Month of July is National Hot Dog Month, Womenís Motorcycle Month, and Cell Phone Courtesy Month. And you thought you never learned anything in this column.
My son Benton has been holding a month-long prophecy series in the Gentry library. He will finish the middle of the month ó July 12 ó and if you think you would like to visit some evening, come and visit at 7 p.m. It is a long, arduous procedure, but he has done so well. I couldnít do it every night, like he has, but he has youth on his side as well.
This has been a month of anniversaries. I guess if June is the month for weddings, then it would follow that it is also the month for anniversaries. So, I would like to congratulate a few people on their anniversary. Bob and Molly Weaver hit the 50-year mark, which is a wonderful accomplishment. George and Ella Fisher also made it to the big 5-0 ! Melinda and Terry Redmond celebrated 31 years of marital bliss, and Kaye and Mike Coones hit 15. That is one quarter of the way to Marcy and Morris Maxwellís anniversary of 60 years. Maxwellís grandson Steve Asher and his lovely wife Cami hit 14, so that is quite the achievement. I remember when Steve was born, so Ö. Leroy and Jan Dickhaut made it to 47 years, and my brother Robert and his wife Shawn celebrated 5. Time has a way of getting away from you, doesnít it ?
Some wonderful people had birthdays this past month. Of course that would have to start with my husband of 22 years, George Robinson. He finally caught up with me again, but alas, I shall soon out age him. Ha. Also, Kase Vunileva, Jerry Lustig, Carrie Thompson, Brooke Gilmore, Forrest Davis, Marilyn Asher, Cheryl Potter, Larry Huls, Ryan Dennis and Tom Alsip. Gee, seems like Tom Alsip had a birthday last year.
It doesnít seem like a year since my brother-in-law Rick Heath died. I know that time flies, and I so know that more as I get older. I wanted to mention that I was glad that the Jenison family put the picture of their loved one, Rick, in the obituary. I used to work with Linda Alsip, cleaning new houses, and he would be putting in the windows for the houses. He was always friendly and kind, and I would never have known who had died if they hadnít put a picture by the name. That is such a help to those of us who donít know names, only faces.
I guess we shall be happy for the month of July, except there will be no more holidays to give us a day off work until September, when Labor Day arrives. July 4 th means the end of holidays for awhile. Enjoy this one, and do keep safe. I have always heard such horrible stories of people ó mostly kids but some adults too ó hurting them selves with firecrackers and the like. You need every one of your digits; keep them safe.
