Filing period for municipal offices currently underway

BENTON COUNTY ó Many of this yearís candidates for various municipal offices in Benton County will soon have to file if they wish to run for office.
In Benton County, cities with the mayor-council form of government ó that is, in all cities or towns in the county except Siloam Springs ó qualified people who wish to be candidates for various municipal offices this year must file nominating petitions with the county clerk. The filing period began Aug. 6 and will end at noon on Aug. 26.
Many municipalities in the county will file for mayor, alderman and other municipal positions.
Potential candidates may file at one of the county clerkís three offices:
ï Bentonville: 215 E. Central Ave., Suite 217; 271-1013.
ï Rogers: 300 W. Poplar St.. Suite 2; 636-3727.
ï Siloam Springs: 707 S. Lincoln St., Suite C; 238-0120.
For cities of the first class ó Bella Vista, Bentonville, Centerton, Gentry, Lowell and Rogers ó the petition must contain signatures from at least 30 qualified electors of the city.
For cities of the second class or incorporated towns ó Avoca, Bethel Heights, Cave Springs, Decatur, Garfield, Gateway, Highfill, Little Flock, Pea Ridge, Springtown and Sulphur Springs ó the petition must contain signatures from at least 10 qualified electors of the city / town.
All candidates must be a qualified elector, a resident of the city / town in which they are seeking office and at least 18 years old.
Candidates for alderman must live in the ward, where applicable, and file by position number.
Information packets and forms for candidates are available at the County Clerkís Office and at each city / town hall.
Candidates should circulate their petitions well in advance of the deadline to allow enough time for completing the certification process by the noon deadline, the county clerk said in a press release.
No write-in candidates for municipal offices are allowed.
