DECATUR ó Plans for this yearís Bulldog Days Festival, set for October 3, 4 and 5, were the topic of discussion at last Tuesdayís Parks and Recreation Committee meeting.
The festival is anticipated to be attended by people from a five-state area.
Activities for all ages are being planned, including a motorcycle show and poker run, hot air balloon rides, antique tractor and engine displays by Tired Iron of the Ozarks, arts and crafts booths, food concessions, entertainment, and animals from Gentryís Wild Wilderness Safari. A fireworks display is also in the works. The parks department is now looking for festival sponsors. Each business donating toward the festival is asked to also provide signs for placement in the park during the festival. Give-away items, such as gift cards and car and motorcycle accessories are also needed.
The committee talked about the possibility of live entertainment during the car and motorcycle show, including plans to enlist local entertainment, like the schoolís multi-cultural club, school band and cheerleaders.
Details, such as security, communications, lighting and advertising were also on the meetingís agenda.
Decatur police officer Larry Fiedorowicz designed a patch to be given to all the participants in the motorcycle show.
Tom Aman said all the food vendors who came last year will be there again this year. Several new vendors will also be at the festival, including vendors offering caramel apples and freshsqueezed lemonade.
In other business, it was decided to move the farmersí market to the barbecue building in Veterans park. The market will be held on Friday and Saturday mornings throughout the warm months. Anyone with food or vegetable items, such as garden produce, plants and fresh eggs, is welcome to come and sell at the market. There is no fee this year.
Committee members complimented Mike Duncan on the Acoustic Jam held in Veterans Park each Saturday night.
ì If you know somebody who plays music, tell them to come out, î Duncan said.
Itís a nice, relaxing, fun evening, and itís free, î committee chairmen David Cook added.
