GRAVETTE ó State Sen. Kim Hendren, R-Gravette, is meeting regularly with other state legislative leaders to try to work out details of possible legislation on the safety of school children on buses, he said Monday.

In 2007, Hendren sponsored a bill to make it easier to report people who passed stopped school buses illegally and has since said he hopes new legislation will tighten enforcement of the stateís existing law.

Hendren and other state lawmakers have been examining a variety of ways the state might use to crack down on the practice. State lawmakers will meet in a regular legislative session in 2009.

He hopes a 2009 bill can be fashioned to accomplish that end and get unanimous support from lawmakers on the Senate Education Committee, which would make the bill very likely to pass the full state Senate, too, Hendren said.
