Civil Air Patrol seeking volunteers for December veterans' ceremony
Posted on Wednesday, November 26, 2008
The 3 rd annual Wreaths Across America ceremony will be held at Fayetteville National Cemetery on Saturday, Dec. 13.
Capt. David Myers and members of the Civil Air Patrol’s 115 th Composite Squadron in Rogers will lead the 11 a. m. event, which will occur simultaneously with roughly 350 other ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery and other locations across the country. Wreaths Across America’s mission is to “ Remember; Honor; and Teach, ” and the ceremonies commemorate the sacrifices of the nation’s veterans and its fallen and active service members. CAP has partnered with the nonprofit organization to lead almost half of the ceremonies. Members of the public have already sponsored placement of more than 100, 000 wreaths on veterans ’ graves across the U. S., an increase of nearly 70, 000 wreaths from 2007. These wreaths will be placed in ceremonies at cemeteries in all 50 states. Worcester Wreath Co. donated more than 17, 000 wreaths for the remembrances, 10, 000 of which will be placed at Arlington National Cemetery.
Myers and the 115 th Composite Squadron are seeking support from Northwest Arkansas citizens and businesses to sponsor as many wreaths as possible for this year’s Fayetteville ceremony. A $ 15 donation to Wreaths Across America will sponsor one individual wreath to be placed on a veteran’s grave at Fayetteville National Cemetery. A Family Sponsorship of $ 60 will allow four wreaths to be placed there, while the $ 150 Small Business Sponsorship will provide 10 wreaths, and the $ 1500 Corporate Sponsorship will provide 100.
Members of the public are also encouraged to consider multiple $ 1 donations that will contribute to the national fund. All other sponsorships directly support the Fayetteville ceremony. Donations can be made at http: // contribute. wreaths-across-america. org /.
